Bitcoin Steadies Above $78,000 as Treasury Yields Bite
Bitcoin opened at $78,559.11 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, up 1.1% from Monday's opening price, before slipping to $77,945.97 by mid-morning. Ethereum followed a similar pattern, opening at $2,467.13, up 2% from the prior session, before easing to $2,454.23. The asset is trading near $78,000, below the closely watched $80,000 resistance level, as rising U.S. sovereign debt yields compete directly with non-yielding assets like Bitcoin for investor capital.
Despite the macro headwind, sustained institutional spot demand across centralized exchanges and ETFs continues to provide a strong floor under the market. Binance alone recorded $15.7 billion in net asset inflows during August, accounting for more than 75% of all new liquidity entering centralized crypto exchanges that month, while U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs logged $3.5 billion in net inflows in August — the strongest month for ETF accumulation since October 2025.
Corporate Treasuries Keep Buying: Strategy and Strive Add to Bitcoin Stacks
Corporate demand showed no signs of slowing this week. Strategy acquired 4,603 BTC for $370 million at an average price of $80,318 per coin, bringing its total holdings to 845,050 BTC alongside $6.71 billion in USD assets, with zero net leverage. Separately, Strive purchased 1,800 BTC for $143 million at an average cost of $79,431 per coin, lifting its total holdings to 23,156 BTC, worth close to $1.8 billion.
What It Means for the Market
Together, the two companies' purchases underscore a pattern seen throughout the year: even as macro pressure — driven by a Federal Reserve policy shift and climbing bond yields — caps short-term upside, corporate and institutional buyers are treating dips as accumulation opportunities. With ETF flows and exchange inflows both pointing toward steady demand, the structural case for Bitcoin appears intact even as it consolidates below key resistance.
