What is bitsCrunch?
bitsCrunch is a data and forensics platform built around NFTs. Beyond standard market analytics, it emphasizes forensic signals such as wash-trading detection and provenance, aiming to separate genuine NFT activity from manipulated volume. It operates as a data provider and analytics layer rather than a marketplace.
Our measured signals
We estimate roughly a 5.6-year track record. Our latency probe returned about 188 ms, a solid mid-range response. Our data shows no audits on file, which is less critical for a read-only data platform than for a fund-holding protocol, and we found no public status page.
- Track record: several years of operation
- Probe latency: ~188 ms (moderate)
- Status page: none found
Why the forensics angle matters
Wash trading has been a persistent problem in NFT markets, inflating volume to create false demand. A tool that flags it can be genuinely useful, but detection is itself heuristic: it can produce false positives and miss sophisticated manipulation, so its outputs are estimates rather than proof. Deeper data and API access typically sit behind paid or token-gated tiers.
How wash-trading detection works
Wash trading is a wallet, or a ring of coordinated wallets, buying and selling the same NFT to itself to fake volume and lure real buyers. Detection tools look for the tells: trades between related addresses, tokens bouncing back and forth, sales at implausible prices, and patterns timed to game reward programs. bitsCrunch scores activity against these heuristics and flags what looks manufactured. The honest limitation is that heuristics can be evaded by patient, well-funded manipulators and can misjudge unusual but legitimate behavior, so a "clean" label is reassurance, not a guarantee, and a flag is a strong reason to look closer rather than a conviction.
Beyond a single marketplace
Part of the case for a dedicated NFT data layer is that individual marketplaces have little incentive to publicize the fake volume flowing through them, since headline numbers attract users. An independent provider that aggregates across venues is better placed to spot cross-marketplace manipulation and to offer a less flattering, more accurate picture. Whether that picture is fully accurate still depends on bitsCrunch's coverage and models, which is why we frame its outputs as informed estimates.
Who it's for
Analysts, marketplaces, and developers who need cleaner NFT data and manipulation signals, and who understand those signals are probabilistic. It is less relevant to casual collectors, and it does not turn a speculative NFT market into a safe one.
