bitsCrunch: NFT Forensics, Blockchain Data APIs and the BCUT Network

bitsCrunch is a Munich-based blockchain data company. It sells analytics and "forensic" data, such as wash-trade detection, NFT price estimates and wallet risk signals, to apps and analysts through APIs and its UnleashNFTs dashboard 12. Since 2024 it has also run the bitsCrunch Network, in which independent node operators process data queries and stake the BCUT token to take part 35. The company was founded by CEO Vijay Pravin Maharajan and raised a $3.6 million private round led by Animoca Brands in 2022 2. Keep the two layers separate: the API is a data service you pay for, while BCUT is a network token used for staking, discounts and governance.

What bitsCrunch does

bitsCrunch collects transaction data from public blockchains and NFT marketplaces and runs models over it to produce higher-level signals. On its homepage the company advertises "100+ metrics through a single API", covering NFT, wallet, token, DeFi and gaming data 1. Its pitch centers on the forensics layer: flagging wash trading, which inflates NFT prices through trades between linked wallets, along with other signs of fraud, and putting an AI-estimated value on NFTs 23. If you are new to the market, see what an NFT is.

Typical users are developers and businesses building wallets, marketplaces, lending apps or compliance checks, plus collectors and analysts who use the UnleashNFTs web app. Model-based outputs such as price estimates and risk scores are probabilistic. They are inputs to a decision, not proof that a sale or a wallet is clean.

Products

  • Data APIs. A single API catalog for on-chain NFT, wallet, token and DeFi metrics 1.
  • UnleashNFTs. A web dashboard for NFT collection and marketplace analytics built on the same data, focused on wash-trade detection and valuation.
  • Other listed solutions. The homepage also lists Nidum AI, an "IP Protection" AI tool and a MetaMask KYT (know-your-transaction) plugin. The company publishes few details about them 1.

Early products named in 2022 coverage (Scour, Liquify, Crunch DaVinci) appear to have been folded into the current lineup 2.

BCUT and the bitsCrunch Network

The bitsCrunch Network is meant to spread the computing behind its data queries across many independent parties instead of keeping it all on company servers.

  • Operators run "query processor" nodes. bitsCrunch lists modest hardware requirements (2 CPUs, 4 GB RAM, Docker), and operators must stake BCUT. They earn query fees and network rewards in proportion to the queries they process 8.
  • Delegators stake BCUT with operators and share in their rewards 35.
  • Contributors propose and build improvements, and also stake BCUT 5.
  • Data consumers can stake BCUT to get a discount on query pricing 5.

BCUT is also a governance token: holders vote on protocol changes 5. The official token contracts are 0xBEF26Bd568e421D6708CCA55Ad6e35f8bfA0C406 on Ethereum and 0x3fb83A9A2c4408909c058b0BfE5B4823f54fAfE2 on Polygon. The staking and reward contracts run on Polygon, so delegating requires bridging BCUT from Ethereum 36. Check addresses against the docs before you interact with them: fake token contracts are a common scam.

BCUT trades on several exchanges, which the company listed in 2024 as including Bybit, KuCoin, Gate.io, Crypto.com and Uniswap 3. Its price is volatile. Staking rewards depend on query volume and network rules, and early promotional reward rates were temporary 38.

Access and costs

API access is wallet-based. You connect a wallet, create a billing account, generate a signed API key, and add funds to the account 7. bitsCrunch's documentation does not agree on what you fund it with. The network overview says query fees are paid in stablecoins 4, while the billing guide asks you to choose a stablecoin and then "Add Funds" in BCUT 7. Current price lists, free-tier limits and rate limits were not publicly accessible when checked, so confirm the terms with bitsCrunch before building on the API.

Risks and limitations

  • Model risk. Wash-trade flags, risk scores and price estimates come from models and can be wrong in either direction.
  • Token risk. Staking BCUT exposes you to the token's price, to smart-contract risk in the Polygon staking contracts and to bridge risk when moving from Ethereum 6.
  • Entity clarity. The homepage names "bitsCrunch, Inc." while the documentation names "bitsCrunch, GmbH" 19. Check which entity your contract or terms of service are with.
  • Disclosure. Many product pages sit behind bot checks, and detailed pricing is not published openly.

Incident record

No hacks, exploits or data breaches attributed to bitsCrunch or the BCUT contracts were found in the sources checked as of October 23, 2026.

No security incident found in the sources checked as of October 23, 2026. That is a dated observation, not a promise that none has happened.

Hacks in DefiLlama’s public database are also scored as the security record on the bitsCrunch rating page.
