What is edgeX?
edgeX is a decentralized exchange for perpetual futures, offering an order-book interface for leveraged trading. Perpetual futures let traders take long or short positions on an asset's price with leverage and no expiry date; periodic funding payments move between longs and shorts to keep the contract price close to the underlying spot market. The order-book design targets traders who want limit orders and exchange-style controls on-chain.
How do leverage and liquidation work?
With leverage, a small margin deposit backs a much larger position, so profits and losses are amplified. If losses push your margin below the maintenance requirement, your position is liquidated and closed automatically, and the collateral behind it can be lost. Holding leveraged positions can also incur ongoing funding costs.
What did our review measure?
Our verified data point for edgeX is performance: we measured an endpoint latency of 172 ms and found no public status page. Our automated process did not confirm value locked, audits, on-chain age, or chain count. Because our composite score can only reflect what we verify, edgeX's mid-table placement here indicates limited measured data rather than a specific strength or weakness.
What are the risks?
- Leverage risk: liquidations can be rapid and wipe out margin.
- Liquidity risk: order books depend on active participants for depth.
- Unverified specifics: we could not confirm audits or value locked, so treat security and liquidity as open questions.
Who is it for?
edgeX may suit active traders who prefer an on-chain order book and are comfortable managing leverage. It is not for beginners, and with several data points missing from our review, verifying audits, liquidity depth, and risk parameters yourself is essential before trading. Our score should not be read as a safety guarantee.
With an order-book venue, the single most useful thing you can check before trading is the live depth in your target markets: how much size sits near the current price, and how quickly the book thins out. That determines your slippage far more than any headline about the platform. Pair that with a look at any published audits and a small test trade, and you will learn more about whether the venue fits your needs than a score alone can tell you.
