Lombard LBTC vs Renzo
Lombard LBTC scores 8.00 out of 10 and Renzo 7.30 in CoinPulse's liquid restaking ranking (#1 and #3 of 15, data collected October 19, 2026). Lombard LBTC's 0.70-point lead comes mostly from audits, the heaviest criterion, where it has 2 published audit links on DefiLlama to Renzo's 1, and from more value locked. Renzo is deployed far more widely: 13 chains, the most of any protocol in the ranking. The two are level on track record score. Both scores are 100% measured, and neither covers safety, yield, fees or withdrawal terms.
Lombard LBTC scores higher: 8/10 against 7.3/10. It leads on 2 of 4 criteria, Renzo on 1.

Where the 0.70 gap comes from
- Audits are the biggest piece (+0.66 to Lombard LBTC). DefiLlama lists 2 published audit links for Lombard LBTC, scored 8, and 1 for Renzo, scored 6; Renzo's link points to its audits page. The criterion counts links on DefiLlama, not audits commissioned, so Renzo's 1 does not mean it has only one audit. No protocol in this category has more than 2.
- Value locked adds to it (+0.30 to Lombard LBTC). $634.7M is in the 8 band and $111.4M is in the 7 band. At 30% weight, that one band is worth 0.30 points.
- Reach wins some back. Renzo's 13 chains earn the category's only 10 on reach, against Lombard's 8 for 2 chains. At 13% weight, that is worth 0.26 points to Renzo.
- Age doesn't separate them, for now. Renzo has been listed about eight months longer (2.8 years against 2.1), but both fall in the same band, which runs up to three years. If Renzo crosses three years before Lombard LBTC does, it would gain 0.24 points, not enough on its own to close the gap.
One more published audit link for Renzo on DefiLlama would be worth 0.66 points and close nearly all of the gap, provided nothing else changes.
Two different underlying assets
The ranking puts both in one category, but they restake different things:
- Lombard describes LBTC as "yield-bearing BTC" that is "fully backed by BTC" (lombard.finance, company statement).
- Renzo is a liquid restaking protocol built on EigenLayer. Users deposit ETH or liquid staking tokens such as stETH and receive ezETH (Nansen, April 25, 2025).
So a choice between them is mostly a choice of asset (BTC or ETH). The score doesn't weigh that. Renzo also adds a dependency on EigenCloud (formerly EigenLayer), which is rated separately: EigenCloud vs Renzo.
What is not measured
- Token peg. Whether LBTC tracks BTC, or ezETH tracks its underlying ETH, is not scored. Peg stability applies only to stablecoins on this site.
- Custody and bridge design. Not scored. This matters for any token deployed on many chains: Renzo's 13-chain reach is scored as breadth, not as additional bridge exposure.
- Incidents. DefiLlama's hack database (1,307 incidents checked October 19, 2026) has no entry matching either protocol. That is no recorded hack, not a guarantee. The security record criterion is not weighted in this category.
- Rewards, fees, withdrawal timing, app experience. Not scored.
- Latency (recorded, unscored). Lombard's staking app responded in a median 32 ms, the quickest in the category. Renzo's restaking app took 259 ms. The category median was 106 ms. These are single-location readings.
Which situation each fits
- If you hold BTC, Lombard LBTC is the one of these two built around BTC. Its score shows above-median evidence on every criterion, with no 10s.
- If you hold ETH or an ETH staking token and want a token available on many networks, Renzo's 13 chains are the measured differentiator. Weigh that against the extra bridge and EigenCloud dependencies, which no criterion here measures.
- If you're deciding on score alone, Lombard LBTC's 8.00 against 7.30 is a clear lead, and most of it rests on the audit links each has on DefiLlama.

Where each one falls short
Lombard LBTC
Scale of value trusted: $634.7M in value locked (DefiLlama). Capital is the market voting with its money — scored on a log scale, so the jump from $10M to $100M counts for more than $10B to $20B.
Renzo
Security audits: 1 published audit with links (DefiLlama) — read the findings yourself. Audits reduce risk, they do not remove it.
Which to choose
Which scores higher, Lombard LBTC or Renzo?+
Lombard LBTC, by 0.70 points (8.00 against 7.30) on October 19, 2026 data. Lombard LBTC ranks #1 and Renzo #3, with EigenCloud (7.62) between them.
Why doesn't Renzo's longer history give it more points?+
Both 2.1 and 2.8 years fall in the same track record band (score 8). The next band starts at three years.
Are LBTC and ezETH the same kind of token?+
No. LBTC is BTC-based, per Lombard. ezETH represents restaked ETH through EigenLayer, per Nansen's explainer. The rating does not compare the two assets' risk.
