What Is Everstake? How the Non-Custodial Staking Provider Works

Everstake is a staking infrastructure company that runs blockchain validators for individuals, wallets, exchanges and institutions. It was founded in 2018 1. Token holders delegate their stake to Everstake's validators to earn proof-of-stake rewards without running their own nodes. Everstake takes a percentage of those rewards as its fee 2. The service is non-custodial: according to the company's terms and its 2025 letter to the SEC, users keep ownership of their tokens and Everstake never holds them 26. Everstake does not issue a liquid staking token 6.

Who operates Everstake

The Terms of Use name Everstake Validation Services LLC, a Cayman Islands company, as the provider 2. A US company, Everstake, Inc., signed an April 2025 letter to the SEC's Crypto Task Force through its Chief Legal Officer. The letter asked for guidance that non-custodial staking is not a securities offering 6.

Sergii Vasylchuk is CEO. The company says it has about 100 staff, three-quarters of them engineers 1. Its servers run on every continent except Antarctica, with none in Ukraine, and core team members work from outside the country. According to the company, service was not interrupted when the war in Ukraine began in 2022 3.

How staking with Everstake works

Everstake runs validator nodes. Users keep their tokens in their own wallets and delegate the right to validate. The process depends on the chain:

  • Delegation chains (for example Solana, Cosmos-based chains, Tezos): you choose Everstake's validator in your wallet or on its staking page and sign a delegation transaction. The tokens stay at your address, and rewards accrue on the network.
  • Ethereum: ETH goes into Ethereum's native staking deposit contract. Everstake says you can withdraw from it without its approval 6. It also runs a pooled ETH product that lets smaller holders stake. ChainSecurity audited that product in 2023 4.
  • Institutions and apps use the same validators through Institutional Staking, Validator-as-a-Service, white-label staking and a Wallet SDK. The SDK lets wallets add staking for their own users 1.

Unstaking follows each network's rules. Unbonding periods and withdrawal queues are set by the protocol, not by Everstake.

Fees

Everstake charges a validator fee: a percentage of the staking rewards you earn, not of your principal. The rate varies by network 2. The fee lowers your net reward compared with running your own validator 6. Check the commission shown for Everstake's validator on each network (wallets and explorers display it) before delegating. Network transaction fees for delegating and claiming are paid separately.

Security, slashing and liability

Staking with any validator carries slashing risk. If a validator breaks protocol rules or misbehaves, the network can destroy part of the stake delegated to it. On some chains, long downtime costs rewards. Everstake's terms say slashing "may result in the partial or total loss of staked Digital Assets." The terms also say the company is not liable for slashing penalties and cap its liability at the validator fees you paid 2.

Other measures the company describes:

  • Audits: ChainSecurity (completed August 17, 2023) and Ackee audited its staking contracts. ChainSecurity reported that two issues that could block the system were fixed during the audit 34.
  • Controls: Everstake lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and NIST CSF compliance and a DORA assessment 1. It also describes penetration testing and an unofficial bug bounty 3.
  • Slashing record and cover: Everstake says it "has never been slashed in Ethereum since its PoS genesis" 3. In 2022 it announced ETH staking cover with Nexus Mutual for slashing and downtime losses caused by its own infrastructure failures 5. Confirm that the cover is still active before relying on it.

Everstake does not provide services to people in sanctioned or restricted jurisdictions, including Russia, Belarus, the occupied territories of Ukraine, Iran, North Korea, Syria and Cuba 2.

Questions about Everstake

Does Everstake hold my crypto?
No. Under its terms and its SEC submission, Everstake runs validators while users keep ownership of their assets. It does not pool funds for custody or take title to them 26.
How much does Everstake charge?
A percentage of your staking rewards, which differs by network 2. The current commission for each network is shown on the validator in your wallet or in a block explorer.
What happens if an Everstake validator is slashed?
The network removes part of the delegated stake. Everstake's terms exclude liability for slashing and cap its liability at the fees you paid 2. The company announced Nexus Mutual cover for Ethereum in 2022, but its current status should be confirmed 5.
Is Everstake a liquid staking protocol?
No. It does not issue liquid staking tokens 6. For a liquid staking token such as stETH, see liquid staking protocols like Lido.
Can US users stake with Everstake?
The US is not on the prohibited list in the terms 2, and Everstake, Inc. is a US entity 6. Network and wallet availability still vary.
