What Is Magic Eden? The Solana NFT Marketplace After Its 2026 Pullback

Magic Eden is an NFT marketplace that launched on Solana in September 2021 and grew into one of the largest NFT trading venues, later adding Bitcoin Ordinals, Bitcoin Runes and several EVM chains 35. In March 2026 it reversed that expansion: it closed its Bitcoin and EVM marketplaces, discontinued Runes and its Bitcoin API, and began shutting down the Magic Eden Wallet 14. As of 23 October 2026, Magic Eden operates its Solana NFT marketplace and game-style products such as Packs and Lucky Buy, and is linked to the ME token 17. It charges 2% on Solana trades 6.

What closed in 2026

Magic Eden's help center sets out the wind-down of everything outside Solana 1:

  • 6 March 2026: Bitcoin bidding and auctions stopped. Funds left in Bitcoin bids had to be withdrawn by then, or recovered through support.
  • 9 March 2026: marketplace support for EVM chains (Ethereum, Polygon and others) and Bitcoin ended. Magic Eden said EVM listings and offers needed no action because nothing was locked.
  • 27 March 2026: all Bitcoin services, including Runes trading and the Bitcoin API, were fully discontinued 112.

A Magic Eden spokesperson described the change as "streamlining operations to focus on our core Solana marketplace" 2. Reporting from Blockspace also linked it to a move toward prediction markets and crypto entertainment; Magic Eden had not announced a prediction-market product in the sources reviewed 3.

Runes. Magic Eden ran a marketplace for Bitcoin Runes, fungible tokens issued on Bitcoin, from 2024 until its closure on 27 March 2026 1. Users who still hold Runes keep them in their own Bitcoin wallets; trading has to happen on another venue. CoinPulse keeps a separate rating entry for Magic Eden Runes.

Ordinals. Magic Eden opened its Ordinals market in March 2023 and for a time handled more than half of Ordinals trading 3. That market closed with the rest of the Bitcoin marketplace in March 2026 1.

Developers should note that the Solana API remains operational but is "under evaluation," and Magic Eden offers no migration tooling for retired services 12.

The Magic Eden Wallet shutdown

The Magic Eden Wallet, a multi-chain self-custody app, moved to export-only mode on 13 March 2026, lost support and its App Store listing on 1 April 2026, and was scheduled to stop working entirely around 1 May 2026 14. The same applied to Account Wallets created through Magic Eden 4.

If you still have the app installed, the only route out is to export the wallet's private key (Magic Eden's guide says private key, not a recovery phrase) and import it into another Solana-compatible wallet 4. Magic Eden says it cannot recover private keys, and keys not exported before shutdown may be inaccessible for good 4. Treat anyone offering "wallet migration" help through direct messages as a scammer.

How the Solana marketplace works

Magic Eden is non-custodial on the trading side: you connect a Solana wallet, list NFTs or make offers, and trades settle on Solana. The help center documents listings, item and collection offers, trait-based offers and sweeping, an aggregator that shows listings from other marketplaces, and AMM pools for NFT liquidity 6. Creators can launch collections through its launchpad and Creator Hub. For the basics, see what an NFT marketplace is and how to buy an NFT.

Magic Eden's other products sit next to the marketplace. Lucky Buy, launched in September 2023, lets users pay a fraction of an NFT's price for a chance to win it; Packs, launched in late October 2025, sells digital packs of collectibles 10. Both are chance-based, so users can spend money and receive less than they paid. Magic Eden is also incubating Dicey, an iGaming platform, as a separate arm 10.

Fees and royalties

On the Solana marketplace, listing is free and Magic Eden takes 2% of each transaction, according to its fee page updated 9 March 2026 6. Sellers receive the listed price minus that fee; on collections with optional royalties, the buyer pays the royalty on top of the price 9. Every trade also needs a small Solana network fee.

Royalties depend on the collection 9:

  • Collections using Magic Eden's MIP-1 standard enforce royalties.
  • For other Solana collections, the buyer chooses to pay no royalty, half or full. The default is full, and the choice is saved in account settings.

Example (illustrative): a 10 SOL sale with a 5% royalty paid in full costs the buyer 10.5 SOL, and the seller receives 9.8 SOL after the 2% fee, before network fees.

The ME token

ME is a Solana token with a total supply of 1 billion, released by the Magic Eden Foundation on 10 December 2024 78. Of that, 12.5% went to an initial claim for eligible users; launch day brought complaints about the claim app 7. ME is used for trading rewards, staking and ME DAO governance 8. Published allocation breakdowns differ between sources, so check the Foundation's own disclosures.

In November 2025 Magic Eden pledged 30% of NFT marketplace revenue to buybacks of ME and of NFT collections 10. In January 2026 it said 15% of all platform revenue would go to the ME ecosystem from 1 February, including USDC rewards to stakers 11. These are company commitments; CoinPulse has not verified buyback volumes. CoinPulse does not cover ME price forecasts.

Company background

Magic Eden was the dominant Solana NFT venue within months of launch, with about 92% of Solana NFT volume by mid-2022 5. That June it raised $130 million at a $1.6 billion valuation, led by Electric Capital and Greylock, with Lightspeed, Paradigm and Sequoia participating 5. It expanded to Ethereum, Polygon, Bitcoin and other chains from 2022 to 2024, then retreated to Solana in 2026 13. The legal entity that operates magiceden.io was not confirmed in the sources reviewed.

Safety and support

Support runs through help.magiceden.io. Magic Eden publishes a list of its official accounts and a guide to spotting impersonators 13. The main risks for users:

  • Fake support and migration offers around the wallet shutdown and closures.
  • Malicious signature requests and counterfeit collections; see crypto phishing.
  • Chance-based products (Lucky Buy, Packs) where the expected value can be below the price.
  • Retired services: any site claiming to offer Magic Eden Bitcoin, Runes or EVM trading after March 2026 is not Magic Eden.
