From Kryll³ to KryllOS

Kryll started with a 2018 token sale for KRL. The company says it raised $2.2 million 5. For years its product was a hosted web platform, later called Kryll³, where users built bots in the browser and ran them on Kryll's servers. Kryll now says that service has ended 1. Its replacement, KryllOS, reached Early Access in 2026 and is updated often: futures strategies arrived in September 2026 and paper trading in version 0.6.1 on October 21, 2026 67.

The difference matters for anyone who used the old service. Bots no longer run in Kryll's cloud, and you are responsible for keeping your own machine or server online.

What KryllOS does

Features Kryll lists as available on its homepage 1:

  • Strategy Editor: drag-and-drop blocks for indicators, conditions and orders.
  • Backtest Engine and Multi Backtest: test a strategy on past market data, one at a time or in batches.
  • Paper Trading: run a strategy against live prices without real orders 6.
  • Futures: long and short strategies on supported derivatives venues.
  • 1-Click VPS Deploy: install KryllOS on a rented server so bots keep running when your computer is off.
  • KryllOS Skill: AI-assisted strategy building.
  • KRL Wallet.

Marked "coming soon" on the same page: Live Trading, Portfolio tracking, Plugins and a Marketplace 1. Check the current release notes before assuming a feature is live.

How it works

  1. Install KryllOS on your computer or a VPS. Kryll publishes a VPS installation guide 6.
  2. Create an exchange API key on Binance, Coinbase or Hyperliquid. Kryll recommends a trade-only key with withdrawals disabled and, where the exchange allows it, IP restriction 4.
  3. Build and backtest a strategy, then paper-trade it.
  4. Connect the key to run the strategy. The key is stored locally, and orders go from your machine to the exchange 14.

Exchange availability depends on your country of residence 1, and each exchange's own rules apply.

Costs

KryllOS itself is free. There is no subscription, plan tier, bot limit or commission on trades 13. You still pay:

  • exchange trading fees, charged by the exchange;
  • VPS hosting, if you run bots on a rented server;
  • AI provider charges, if you use AI features with your own provider 1.

Kryll says it plans to earn money from optional AI tokens, marketplace commissions and exchange referral programs. Referral payments come out of the exchange's fee, not from an extra charge to you 1.

Security and API keys

Because KryllOS is self-hosted, Kryll says there is no Kryll cloud server holding your keys, strategies or funds, and no Kryll account to create 14. API keys sit in a local database that only the KryllOS process can read. Kryll does not encrypt them at rest and argues that an encryption key kept on the same machine would add little protection 4. For remote servers it describes an SSH tunnel hidden behind port knocking, signed plugins and pinned dependencies 4. These are the company's own descriptions. Kryll says the source code will be published on GitHub; the homepage says it is not there yet 1.

What this means for you:

  • Anyone who compromises your computer or VPS can use your API key. Keep withdrawals disabled on the key, so that a stolen key can trade but cannot move funds out.
  • A bot that loses money is not a security failure. Backtests and paper trading do not predict live results, and Kryll's own risk warning says past performance does not indicate future results 1.

KRL token

KRL is an ERC-20 token with a fixed maximum supply of 49,417,348. It exists on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Optimism, and all circulating tokens are unlocked 5. In KryllOS, KRL is planned as the only currency for marketplace purchases (bots, blocks, apps and AI skills) and for optional paid features 15. The homepage gives a planned split of 70% to the creator, 20% to ecosystem growth and 10% to Kryll 1. A May 2026 post instead names publishers, Kryll and KRL stakers as recipients, without percentages 5. A burn or buyback is described only as an option under consideration 5. Kryll has ended its relationship with the MEXC exchange and told KRL holders there to withdraw 7.

How Kryll differs from hosted bot platforms

Hosted services such as 3Commas run your bots on their own servers and charge a subscription. KryllOS runs on hardware you control and is free, so you take on uptime and server security yourself. Live trading on KryllOS is still being rolled out, and fewer exchanges are supported than on many hosted platforms 1.
