HyperLend: How the Hyperliquid Lending Protocol Works, HPL Token, Fees and Risks

HyperLend is a decentralized lending protocol on Hyperliquid's HyperEVM. You can supply crypto to earn interest, or post collateral and borrow against it 19. Its main markets are built on a fork of Aave v3.6, so rates move with supply and demand and under-collateralized loans are liquidated automatically 24. The protocol's HPL token is offered by Hyperlend Inc., a company registered in Panama. HPL has a crypto-asset white paper prepared under the EU's MiCA rules 78. HyperLend doesn't hold user funds; the smart contracts do.

Who runs HyperLend

The legal entity on record is Hyperlend Inc., a Panamanian Sociedad Anónima registered on December 23, 2025. Its office is in The Century Tower in Panama City. It is the offeror named in HPL's MiCA white paper, dated April 13, 2026 78. The white paper states that no EU authority has approved it. Under MiCA, a token white paper is a disclosure that is notified to a regulator, not a license and not an endorsement 8.

The docs list outside risk and security partners. Block Analitica manages risk parameters, Blockworks Advisory provides strategic oversight, and Hypernative runs 24/7 on-chain monitoring 6. A company-funded Blockworks report adds that a "Veto Council" can cancel queued multisig transactions as a backstop 9. The docs don't name individual founders.

How HyperLend works

HyperLend offers three kinds of markets:

  • Core Pools. Many assets share one pool. You can borrow any listed asset against any accepted collateral. This is capital-efficient, but a problem with one asset can affect the whole pool 2. E-mode allows higher loan-to-value ratios when collateral and debt are correlated, such as two stablecoins, but limits you to that category 2.
  • Isolated Pools. Each market pairs one collateral token with one borrowable token, so risk stays in that market 2.
  • P2P Pools. Peer-to-peer markets, as described in the Blockworks report 9.

To lend, you deposit an asset and receive an interest-bearing position. Rates rise when borrowing demand uses up more of the pool 23. To borrow, you deposit collateral and draw a loan up to that asset's limit. HyperLend also offers HyperEVM-specific options, such as using wHLP (tokenized Hyperliquid vault shares) as collateral and borrowing against Hyperliquid L1 spot positions. It also supports fixed-rate institutional credit through Aviya, built with Hyperion DeFi 39. Background: what DeFi is.

Liquidations

Your health factor compares risk-weighted collateral with debt. When it drops below 1, anyone can liquidate the position. HyperLend doesn't whitelist liquidators 4. How much can be liquidated depends on the position's size 4:

Position Health factor Debt that can be liquidated
Under $2,000 Below 1 All of it
Any size Below 0.95 All of it
$2,000 or more 0.95 to 1 Up to 50%

The liquidator repays debt and receives your collateral at a bonus that varies by asset. Part of that bonus goes to the treasury 34. HyperLend suggests keeping a health factor above 2. Repaying debt raises it faster than adding collateral 4. Prices come from Chainlink and RedStone oracles 5.

Fees and yield

HyperLend charges no fee to deposit or withdraw, and a 0.04% fee on flash loans 3. Lenders don't receive all the interest borrowers pay. A portion goes to an insurance fund and the treasury, though the docs reviewed don't state the percentage 3. You also pay HyperEVM gas for each transaction. Supply and borrow rates float with utilization, so any quoted APY is a snapshot.

The HPL token

HPL is HyperLend's token. Its white paper lists 1,000,000,000 tokens and an offer/admission start date of May 13, 2026, and names Coinbase and Kraken as the platforms where admission to trading was sought 8. A company-funded report places the token generation event in January 2026 9.

HPL is used for governance and staking. Staking HPL gives sHPL, which earns borrow-rate rebates of up to 80%. The borrowing rebate requires at least 10,000 HPL staked 89. The white paper states that HPL grants no rights to profits, revenues or assets 8.

Security and risks

  • Smart-contract risk. HyperLend lists security reviews by Pashov Audit Group, Ackee Blockchain and a Cantina competition 6. These reviews reduce the risk of a bug but don't remove it, and the Aave fork code includes HyperLend's own changes.
  • Liquidation risk. Volatile collateral can be liquidated quickly. Close factors allow full liquidation of small or deeply underwater positions 4.
  • Oracle and asset risk. Wrong prices, or a depeg in collateral such as a liquid-staking token, can trigger liquidations or bad debt. Core Pools share that exposure across assets 25.
  • Admin and upgrade risk. Parameters and upgrades go through multisig transactions, with a Veto Council as a backstop, according to the Blockworks report 9.
  • Ecosystem concentration. Everything runs on HyperEVM and depends on Hyperliquid's infrastructure.

One search turned up no exploit of HyperLend's contracts. The company-funded Blockworks report says HyperLend wasn't affected by the 2026 Kelp-related incidents that hit other lenders 9. HyperLend's docs include an "I got scammed/hacked" help page. For phishing risks, see how to avoid crypto scams.

Incident record

No security incident found in the sources checked as of October 23, 2026. That is a dated observation, not a promise that none has happened.

Hacks in DefiLlama’s public database are also scored as the security record on the HyperLend rating page.

Questions about HyperLend

Is HyperLend a company or a protocol?
Both, in different senses. HyperLend is the on-chain protocol. Hyperlend Inc. (Panama) is the company that offers the HPL token 18.
Was there a HyperLend airdrop?
HPL launched in early 2026 89. The sources reviewed don't document how any airdrop was allocated. Check eligibility claims only through official HyperLend channels, and never sign transactions from unsolicited links.
What is HyperLend's TVL?
It changes daily. DefiLlama tracks "HyperLend Pooled" separately, and the CoinPulse rating page shows a dated figure.
Does HyperLend have an app?
Yes, a web app at app.hyperlend.finance. The docs explain how to add it to a phone's home screen.
What are alternatives to HyperLend?
Other lending protocols include Aave on other chains and different money markets on HyperEVM. See the lending platform ratings.

For CoinPulse's separate evaluation, see CoinPulse's HyperLend Pooled rating and evidence.
