SideShift.ai is a crypto swap service. It converts one coin into another and sends the result straight to your own wallet, with no exchange account or deposit balance 13. You pick a pair, send coins to a one-time deposit address and receive the other asset, usually within minutes 10. The service is run by Paradigm Ltd, which uses a mailing address in St. Kitts 1. It is not open to US residents 12. SideShift.ai is unrelated to SideShift, the shift-work jobs app.
SideShift.ai's Terms of Service name Paradigm Ltd as the operator 1. For legal and law-enforcement mail, the company lists an address care of IIC Management Company Ltd in Frigate Bay, Basseterre, St. Kitts 1. The white paper says the service started in 2018. Its first version was a sidechain swap tool for Paul Sztorc's Drivechain project 12. SideShift's press page describes Andreas Brekken as its founder 17.
The company raised $817,500 in a July 2019 seed sale of its XAI token. It says that money funded early operations 12. Wallets and apps such as Trezor, Bitcoin.com, Edge and Aqua Wallet are shown as partners on its homepage 3.
A "shift" is SideShift's term for a single swap. The service runs it automatically 10:
Fixed rate. The rate is locked for 15 minutes after you create the order. You must send the exact amount shown. A different amount is rejected and refunded 4.
Variable rate. The rate keeps moving until your deposit arrives, then locks. You can send any amount within the order's deposit range 47.
The minimum deposit changes with prices and network costs. SideShift sets the maximum. Deposits above it are processed by hand and can take longer 7.
SideShift lists dozens of networks. These include Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Tron, Bitcoin, Liquid and TON 15.
SideShift does not publish a separate trading fee. Its fee is built into the exchange rate it quotes. Apps that embed SideShift show their users the same quote 6. Network fees come on top, and they depend on the coins involved 5:
On fixed-rate orders, network fees are already inside the quoted rate. On variable-rate orders they appear separately on the order page 5. To compare costs, look at the amount you will actually receive, not the headline rate. For background, see network fees.
SideShift Ultra is an optional tier that requires identity verification through a third-party provider. It pays 0.5% cashback in USDT on each shift and offers priority support, faster recoveries and higher limits 13.
The United States appears on every SideShift restriction list, but the lists do not match:
Users must be at least 18. Each shift must be for personal use, with the user owning both the sending and receiving addresses 1. XAI and staking are also unavailable in the US 2.
SideShift does not hold customer balances. Coins pass through a deposit address for each order and go out to your wallet 110. This differs from a centralized exchange, where you keep funds on the platform (see CEX vs DEX). During a swap, though, your coins sit at a deposit address SideShift controls, so you rely on the company, not a smart contract, to complete it.
No sign-up does not mean no checks:
An "account" is created automatically after your first shift. It is secured by a private key that you must back up yourself. Lose the key and you lose access to the account and any referral earnings 11.
Support runs through live chat on the site. Have your order ID ready 10. Common problems:
Never share your account private key or wallet seed phrase with anyone claiming to be support. See crypto phishing.
SideShift Token (XAI) is an Ethereum token with a fixed supply of 210 million 12. SideShift buys XAI on the market to pay referral and partner rewards, rather than minting new tokens 12. Staking rewards ended on June 3, 2026. XAI is no longer a yield-bearing token, but users who still hold staked svXAI can unstake it 12. The white paper says that if SideShift.ai were sold, the proceeds would go proportionally to XAI holders 12. SideShift also publishes treasury wallet addresses where it says company profits are added 14.
Hacks in DefiLlama’s public database are also scored as the security record on the SideShift.ai rating page.
