ChangeHero is an instant cryptocurrency exchange: you pick two coins, send a deposit to a one-time address, and receive the other coin in your own wallet, without opening an account 67. It does not hold balances for you. Instead it routes swaps through third-party exchange services 2. The service is run by HEROFINTECHS LIMITADA, a company registered in San José, Costa Rica 1. Two points matter before you use it: the terms exclude US and EU residents 3, and identity checks can apply to some swaps even though no sign-up is needed 58.
The Terms of Use name HEROFINTECHS LIMITADA (company no. 4062001322968) in San José, Costa Rica, as the operator. Disputes go to arbitration in Costa Rica, and class actions are excluded 1. Fiat purchases and sales are processed by separate payment companies. The site footer names UAB Finch Technologies and Moneymaple Tech Ltd, while the FAQ sends fiat questions to Mercuryo and FinchPay 67. Those partners run their own KYC and ask for your consent separately 8.
The company says it launched in 2018 6. A 2020 sponsored article described it as founded that year in Hong Kong 9. The current legal entity is Costa Rican.
How long it takes depends mostly on the blockchains involved. The FAQ notes an Ethereum epoch of about seven minutes. It also warns that a Bitcoin deposit sent with a low network fee can take days to confirm 7.
ChangeHero says its fee is no more than 0.5% on Best Rate and up to 0.7% on Fixed Rate. The fee is built into the quoted rate 6. Your total cost also includes:
The Terms also list penalty charges. A swap stopped because the user refused KYC is refunded minus the network fee and a 10% operational fee, with a $100-equivalent minimum. A $50 fee applies when extra handling is needed because of a user error, such as sending to the wrong network 5.
No account or login is needed to swap 6. That does not mean verification never happens. The Terms let ChangeHero hold a transaction and ask for ID and proof of funds 5. The AML policy (last updated June 2022) sets standard checks for single transactions of €1,000 or more, or whenever money laundering is suspected 8. The homepage says fiat purchases up to €700 need no KYC 6. The policy lists red flags such as TOR use, mixer funds and high-risk regions. These can put an order on hold 8.
If an order is held, you have to complete verification or accept the refund deduction described above 5.
The Terms of Use (March 2026) bar people established, resident or located in the United States and its territories and in the European Union. They also exclude Ontario (Canada), Japan, Bangladesh, Bolivia, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Crimea, Sudan, Syria and UN-sanctioned countries. The minimum age is 16 3. The company's "180+ countries" figure is a marketing claim 6. The Terms are the binding list.
ChangeHero never holds a balance for you. Your coins sit in your wallet before and after the swap 2. This limits exposure to a platform failure, but you are trusting the service and its partner exchanges with each deposit while the order runs. See self-custody for the trade-offs.
Hacks in DefiLlama’s public database are also scored as the security record on the ChangeHero rating page.
