What Is Pionex? A Crypto Exchange With Built-In Trading Bots

Pionex is a centralized crypto exchange whose main feature is automated trading bots built into the platform. You deposit crypto, pick a bot such as a grid or DCA bot, and it places orders on Pionex for you around the clock. You do not connect an outside exchange. The global site, pionex.com, is operated by Marketa Trading Inc. under its terms 1. It excludes US residents and several other countries 2. US users get a separate, state-licensed platform now called Webot (formerly Pionex.US) 8.

Who runs Pionex

Pionex began operating in 2019 12, and its homepage says it has served users for seven years and has more than 5 million users 6. These are company figures.

The brand covers more than one legal entity:

  • pionex.com is run by Marketa Trading Inc. The terms say Pionex Pte. Ltd. and Pionex Inc. are not operators of the global site. Disputes go to ICC arbitration seated in Belize, under English common law 1.
  • The US platform runs under NMLS #2284360. A 2025 state consent order identifies that license holder as Pionex Inc., a Delaware company based in Princeton, New Jersey 10. In October 2026 the US site started calling itself Webot (formerly Pionex.US) 8.

Your account terms, fees and protections depend on which of the two you sign up with.

How Pionex trading bots work

A Pionex bot is a set of rules that places and cancels orders on the exchange's own order books. You fund the bot from your Pionex balance and set parameters. It then trades until you stop it or an exit condition triggers.

The main bot types on official pages:

  • Grid Trading Bot: splits a price range into levels, buys as price falls through a level and sells as it rises. It profits from back-and-forth movement and stops trading if price leaves the range 7.
  • Futures Grid Bot: the same logic on perpetual futures, with long, short or neutral setups and leverage. The homepage says it starts from 10 USDT 6.
  • DCA Bot: buys in steps as price drops and takes profit in one exit 8.
  • Rebalancing Bot: holds a basket of coins at set weights and trades to restore them 8.

For the Grid Bot, Pionex offers an "AI strategy" that suggests parameters from 7-, 30- and 180-day backtests. Pionex itself says the suggestions do not guarantee profit or that prices will stay in range 7. Bots with leverage can be liquidated. A grid bot in a falling market keeps buying a declining asset.

Fees

Pionex charges trading fees on every order a bot places. The pionex.com fee page listed these base rates on October 23, 2026 4:

Market Maker Taker
Spot 0.05% 0.05%
Leveraged tokens 0.10% 0.10%
Futures 0.02% 0.05%

VIP tiers lower these rates 4. Using a bot costs nothing extra beyond these fees. Deposits are free. Withdrawals carry a per-coin network fee: for example, 1 USDT on Tron or about 0.2 USDT on BNB Smart Chain at the time checked 4. The US platform advertises a 0.1% trading fee 8.

Illustration (assumed numbers): a grid bot that buys and sells $100 of BTC 50 times in a month on spot pays 0.05% on each $100 fill. That is 100 fills × $0.05 = $5 in fees. Frequent small grids can turn fees into a large share of profit.

Accounts, KYC and limits

Pionex is custodial and uses tiered identity checks. The daily withdrawal limit is 0 USDT without KYC, 20,000 USDT at level 1 and 1,000,000 USDT at level 2 5. In practice you must verify your identity before you can withdraw. Pionex says it applies identity checks and AML controls and offers Google Authenticator 2FA and withdrawal whitelists 6.

pionex.com's terms exclude residents of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Hong Kong, mainland China and several sanctioned countries 2.

Custody and safety

Your funds sit in accounts Pionex controls. You do not hold the keys. The terms allow Pionex to use outside custodians and counterparty exchanges to hold or trade all or part of your assets. They warn you could lose assets if such a provider fails 3. Pionex states that user assets are separated from its operating funds and that a Merkle-tree check shows reserves above 100% 6. That is a company disclosure, not a full solvency audit. DefiLlama tracks about $123 million in Pionex wallets across eight chains (October 23, 2026) 11. Pionex also runs a bug bounty program and a Pionex Card. The card is promoted with 1% cashback and no opening or annual fee 6.

Pionex in the US

US residents cannot use pionex.com 2. They use Webot (formerly Pionex.US), which says it is available in 47 states. It offers grid, DCA and rebalancing bots on a smaller list of pairs 8. Its license page lists money transmitter licenses in many states, legal opinions or exemptions in others, and a denied application in Alaska 9.

In 2025, Pionex Inc. signed a consent order with Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio and South Dakota. The order covers money transmission in North Carolina and Ohio before it was licensed there in 2022, plus record-keeping and compliance gaps. It paid $20,000 and did not admit wrongdoing 10.

How Pionex differs from 3Commas and Cryptohopper

The main difference is where the bot trades. Pionex runs bots on its own exchange, so your money and the bot sit on the same platform. Services such as 3Commas and Cryptohopper connect through API keys to accounts you hold at other exchanges. That model lets you keep funds on an exchange you choose, but it adds API-key risk and a separate subscription. With Pionex, you accept Pionex's custody and its list of markets.
