Bedrock Crypto: What uniETH, uniBTC and brBTC Are and How They Work

Bedrock is a non-custodial liquid staking and restaking protocol. It issues receipt tokens for staked assets: uniETH for ether, uniBTC for wrapped bitcoin, brBTC for a basket of bitcoin derivatives, and uniIOTX for IoTeX 5810. Singapore staking firm RockX launched it in February 2023 2. The Bedrock website is run by Golden Bull Enterprises Limited, a British Virgin Islands company, and its terms exclude US persons 1. The point newcomers miss most often is that these tokens work in different ways. uniETH grows in value against ETH, while uniBTC is designed to stay at 1:1 with wrapped BTC. Their exit routes, fees and risks also differ. (This page is about the crypto protocol, not Minecraft Bedrock or Amazon Bedrock.)

What Bedrock is and who runs it

Bedrock is a set of smart contracts plus a web app (app.bedrock.technology). You deposit an asset into a contract and receive a token that represents your staked position. The token can be held, traded or used in other DeFi apps while the underlying asset earns staking or restaking rewards.

Restaking means pledging an already-staked asset to secure additional networks, such as EigenLayer services or Babylon for bitcoin, in exchange for extra rewards and extra slashing risk. CoinPulse's explainer on what restaking is covers the general model.

Bedrock was introduced by RockX, a Singapore-based staking infrastructure company, in February 2023 2. Bedrock's uniETH documentation still refers to a "RockX Staking Contract" 5. The legal operator named in the Terms of Use is Golden Bull Enterprises Limited of the BVI. BVI law governs, and disputes go to confidential arbitration 1.

In 2025–2026 Bedrock began repositioning itself as "Bedrock 2.0", a yield platform focused on bitcoin. Its own reason is that restaking yields across the sector have been shrinking since mid-2024 11.

Products

uniETH (ETH liquid staking and restaking). You deposit ETH and receive uniETH. Your uniETH balance does not change over time. Instead, each uniETH becomes redeemable for more ETH as rewards accrue: Bedrock's example moves from 1:1 to 1 uniETH = 1.2 ETH. Deposits are pooled into 32-ETH validators, there is no minimum deposit, and Bedrock suggests at least 0.01 ETH 5. Bedrock says uniETH has been upgraded to restake through EigenLayer.

uniBTC (staked wrapped BTC). Bedrock describes uniBTC as a staked wrapped-BTC token, with 1 uniBTC representing 1 wBTC staked. Rewards come from restaking, with Babylon named as the route for bitcoin staking 8. By DefiLlama's count it is now Bedrock's largest product 14.

brBTC (multi-protocol BTC restaking). brBTC accepts several bitcoin derivatives on Ethereum (including uniBTC, wBTC, cbBTC and FBTC) and on BNB Chain (including uniBTC and BTCB). It spreads the deposits across restaking protocols such as Babylon, Symbiotic, SatLayer, Pell and Mellow. Bedrock lists the allocation ratios as "to be confirmed", and the page is marked as under development 10.

Yield Vaults (in development). Under Bedrock 2.0, uniBTC deposits are routed into strategies run by outside partners. As of May 27, 2026, Bedrock reported $183.23 million of uniBTC deployed into an over-collateralized lending vault on Cap, lent to named trading firms. Bedrock says uniBTC holders get this exposure automatically, without a separate deposit 12. This means uniBTC holders carry credit risk from that strategy as well as smart-contract risk.

uniIOTX is a liquid staking token for IoTeX's IOTX.

Fees

Bedrock's fees vary by product, and some are not final:

Product Fee (per Bedrock docs)
uniETH 10% commission on block rewards, transaction fees and MEV; 0% on EigenLayer points; restaking commission "to be decided by the community" 6
uniBTC 0.5% withdrawal fee on unstaking (updated March 10, 2025), which Bedrock attributes to Babylon staking costs 9
All products Transaction, deposit and withdrawal fees are shown before you confirm; gas, bridge and third-party fees are extra 1

Because uniETH's commission comes out of rewards, it lowers the rate at which uniETH gains value against ETH rather than appearing as a separate charge.

Unstaking and exit routes

Exiting works differently for each token, and this is where most practical problems come from.

  • uniETH: Direct withdrawals in Bedrock's app must be in multiples of 32 ETH. They take 2–10 days in Ethereum's exit queue, plus a 7-day EigenLayer withdrawal period, and you then return to the app to claim. Smaller amounts have to be sold through the app's Swap function, which routes to a DEX aggregator at the market price 7. That price can sit below uniETH's underlying value when liquidity is thin.
  • uniBTC: You choose a wrapped BTC to receive (wBTC at the time of checking). There is an 8-day wait and a 0.5% fee, and daily withdrawal caps apply: 2 wBTC per day on Ethereum and 1 BTC per day on Bitlayer when checked. Requests above the available cap are rejected, and blacklisted addresses cannot withdraw 9.
  • brBTC: Bedrock's brBTC documentation does not describe a redemption path 10.

Bedrock warns that its unstaking docs contain outdated screenshots and points users to the live app for current networks and caps 79.

Security model and risks

Bedrock is non-custodial: the company says it cannot move assets held in users' wallets 1. Deposited assets, though, sit in Bedrock's contracts and in the restaking protocols those contracts use. Several risks stack up as a result:

  • Smart-contract risk in Bedrock's own contracts. The 2024 uniBTC exploit came from a contract bug. Bedrock publishes audits from PeckShield and BlockSec covering uniETH (2024), uniBTC (2024), brBTC (2024) and a newer cuniBTC product (2026) 13. An audit lowers the chance of bugs but does not guarantee against them.
  • Underlying-asset risk. uniBTC and brBTC are built on wrapped bitcoin tokens (wBTC, cbBTC, FBTC, BTCB and others), each with its own custodian.
  • Restaking and slashing risk at EigenLayer, Babylon and the other protocols, plus credit risk from Yield Vault borrowers 12.
  • Liquidity risk. Daily caps, exit queues and 32-ETH multiples mean a fast exit often depends on selling on the secondary market 79.

Bedrock says its reserves are verified through Chainlink Proof of Reserve 11. A reserve feed checks backing; it is not an audit of solvency or of strategy losses.

Incident record

1 not recovered

uniBTC minting exploit

September 26–27, 2024not recovered
Bedrock's uniBTC vault contract on Ethereum treated deposits of native ETH as if they were BTC at a 1:1 ratio. An attacker used a 30.8 WETH flash loan to mint 30.8 uniBTC and sold the uniBTC into DEX liquidity pools 3. Estimated losses were about $1.7 million (Verichains) to $2 million (Bedrock-cited reporting), mostly from those pools. Bedrock said the underlying wrapped BTC and BTC reserves were not affected and that a reimbursement plan and post-mortem would follow 2. In June 2025 security firm Fuzzland said a former employee of Fuzzland was behind the attack and that Fuzzland had compensated Bedrock. These are Fuzzland's claims, reported without independent verification 4.
Outcome
No confirmed recovery. No public Bedrock confirmation of completed user reimbursement was found as of October 23, 2026.
Loss
~$1.7M–$2M

Questions about Bedrock

Is Bedrock available in the United States?
No. Bedrock's Terms of Use list the United States as an excluded jurisdiction and bar US persons, along with residents of China, Singapore and FATF-listed countries 1.
Does uniETH rebase?
No. Your uniETH balance stays the same and each token becomes worth more ETH as rewards accrue 5.
How long does it take to unstake uniBTC?
Bedrock's docs give an 8-day waiting period and a 0.5% fee, subject to daily caps that were 2 wBTC on Ethereum when checked 9.
What is the difference between uniBTC and brBTC?
uniBTC is Bedrock's own staked wrapped-BTC token. brBTC is a separate basket token: it accepts uniBTC and other BTC derivatives and spreads them across several restaking protocols 810.
Does Bedrock hold my keys?
No. Bedrock says it has no custody of user wallets or private keys. Assets you deposit, however, are held by its smart contracts and the protocols they route to 1.
