What Is USDT0? Tether's Omnichain Version of USDT

USDT0 is a version of Tether's USDT stablecoin that moves natively between blockchains. Every USDT0 is backed 1:1 by USDT locked in a smart contract on Ethereum 1. It is issued by Everdawn Labs, which a co-founder has called "a startup within the Tether ecosystem" 12. Transfers use LayerZero's Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard, so tokens are burned on one chain and minted on another rather than wrapped 1. USDT0 launched in January 2025 on Kraken's Ink network 11. The docs now list 24 native networks, including Arbitrum, HyperEVM, Plasma and Polygon 8.

Who runs USDT0

USDT0 is issued by Everdawn Labs, not by Tether Limited itself. Tether announced the launch in a January 16, 2025 blog post 11. The Block reported Everdawn Labs as issuer, and quoted a co-founder describing the project as a startup inside the Tether ecosystem 12. The underlying USDT is still a Tether liability. USDT0 adds a cross-chain layer run by Everdawn on top of it.

The same infrastructure carries XAUT0, an omnichain Tether Gold, and USAT 1. Integration and support requests go through the docs' contact page, which includes a category for tokens sent to the wrong address or chain 10.

How USDT0 works

USDT0 uses a lock-and-mint design 1:

  1. Lock. USDT is deposited into the OFT Adapter contract on Ethereum.
  2. Verify. A cross-chain message is checked by decentralized verifier networks (DVNs). USDT0 requires all three of LayerZero's DVN, its own USDT0 DVN and the Canary DVN to agree 7.
  3. Mint. An equal amount of USDT0 is minted on the destination chain.
  4. Return. Burning USDT0 on any chain sends a message that unlocks the same amount of USDT on Ethereum.

Moving USDT0 between two non-Ethereum chains skips Ethereum. The token is burned on the source chain and minted on the destination, while the locked USDT stays put 1. The total supply across chains always matches the USDT held in the adapter.

IOTA is an exception. It uses its own lockbox paired only with Ethereum, so USDT0 on IOTA must go back to Ethereum before reaching other chains 1.

The Legacy Mesh

Some major chains, including Tron, TON and Solana, already have native USDT, so USDT0 cannot replace it there. The Legacy Mesh links them through liquidity pools on Arbitrum 3. A transfer from Tron goes to Arbitrum, swaps USDT for USDT0 in a pool and can then continue to any USDT0 chain 3. The Mesh currently connects Ethereum, Tron, TON, Solana and Celo 3. Unlike native USDT0 transfers, it charges 0.03% per transfer, paid in USDT 3.

USDT0 vs USDT

USDT USDT0
Issued by Tether Everdawn Labs, against locked USDT 12
Where it lives Chains Tether supports natively (Ethereum, Tron, Solana and others) Chains without native USDT (Arbitrum, Ink, HyperEVM, Plasma and others) 58
Backing Tether's reserves USDT locked 1:1 in the Ethereum OFT Adapter 1
Moving between chains Via exchanges or third-party bridges Burn-and-mint through LayerZero 1
Extra risk layer — Cross-chain messaging, verifiers and upgradeable contracts 67

In short, USDT0 is USDT plus a bridge. A holder still depends on Tether's reserves, and also on Everdawn's contracts and the LayerZero verification set.

On Polygon PoS, USDT0 is the existing USDT contract, upgraded 5. Polygon users holding "USDT" are therefore already holding USDT0.

Fees and transfer times

The official transfer page is usdt0.to/transfer. You connect a wallet, choose the source and destination chains, approve a spending cap and confirm the bridge transaction 4. The native route has no USDT0 fee beyond gas and typically settles in 30 seconds to 3 minutes 4. Where available, an optional Aori route uses an intent-based solver network and settles in under 5 seconds. It charges a market-based fee, which you can cap with a tolerance setting such as 0.5% or 1% 4. The interface can also airdrop a small amount of gas on the destination chain 4.

Legacy Mesh transfers add the 0.03% fee 3. Gas is paid on the source chain, plus messaging costs, which the interface shows before you confirm. See gas fees for background.

Supported chains

As of October 2026, the Deployments page lists 24 native USDT0 networks and 6 Legacy Mesh chains 8. The token-feature matrix (August 2026) includes Arbitrum One, Berachain, Conflux eSpace, Flare, Hedera, HyperCore and HyperEVM, Ink, Mantle, MegaETH, Monad, Morph, Optimism, Plasma, Polygon PoS, Rootstock, Sei, Stable, Stellar, Tempo, Unichain and X Layer 5. Contract addresses for every chain are on the Deployments page. Use that page instead of a token search, since lookalike tokens exist. For supply and volume data, the official dashboard is analytics.usdt0.to, which excludes Legacy Mesh activity 9.

Security model and risks

  • Verification. Each cross-chain message needs all three DVNs to agree. A single compromised verifier cannot forge a mint 7. If one verifier fails or goes offline, though, transfers can stall.
  • Upgradeability and admin keys. The token contracts sit behind upgradeable proxies, and Safe multisig addresses are listed for each chain 68. Security depends on who holds those keys.
  • Blocklist. The contract owner can block addresses from sending USDT0 6. USDT on Ethereum has Tether's own freeze controls.
  • Concentrated backing. All native USDT0 depends on one adapter contract on Ethereum, which held about $3.20 billion according to DefiLlama on October 23, 2026 13.
  • Audits and bounty. Guardian, ChainSecurity and Paladin have audited the contracts. Chaos Labs produced a risk analysis, and an Immunefi bounty pays up to $6 million 7. Audits reduce risk but do not remove it.
  • Wrong-chain sends. Sending to an unsupported chain or address can strand funds. Contact support through the official docs only 10.

Incident record

No exploit, mint error or extended transfer halt found in sources checked (January 2025 to October 23, 2026). DefiLlama's hack database has no USDT0 entry 13. Verdict: No recorded incident.

No security incident found in the sources checked as of October 23, 2026. That is a dated observation, not a promise that none has happened.

Hacks in DefiLlama’s public database are also scored as the security record on the USDT0 rating page.

Questions about USDT0

Is USDT0 issued by Tether?
Tether launched it and the backing is USDT, but The Block reports the issuer as Everdawn Labs 1112.
Can I swap USDT0 back to USDT?
Yes. Burning USDT0 unlocks USDT on Ethereum through the official transfer interface. On Legacy Mesh chains, it is swapped through Arbitrum pools for a 0.03% fee 13.
Is USDT0 a wrapped token?
No. It is minted and burned through the OFT standard rather than issued by a third-party bridge as a wrapped IOU. It is still a separate token contract on each chain, backed by locked USDT 1.
Does it cost anything to bridge USDT0?
The native route charges only gas. The faster Aori route and the Legacy Mesh carry fees 34.
Where can I find USDT0 contract addresses?
On the official Deployments page in the USDT0 docs 8.
