What Is ApeX Protocol? ApeX Omni, Fees, Chains and Risks

ApeX Protocol is a non-custodial derivatives exchange brand. Its live venue, ApeX Omni, runs an order book for perpetual futures on a ZK-rollup built with zkLink X technology 16. You connect a wallet, deposit from one of several chains and trade perpetuals with USDT margin, without opening an exchange account or passing KYC 24. The predecessor, ApeX Pro on StarkEx, has been shut down; any remaining balances there leave through a forced-withdrawal process 78. The Terms of Use exclude US persons 9.

What ApeX Protocol is and who is behind it

ApeX Protocol launched in 2022. Its token sale was the first project on Bybit's Launchpad 2.0, and the launch press release named Davion Labs as the incubator, with a seed round led by Dragonfly 12. Bybit hosted the sale. That is a listing relationship, and it should not be read as Bybit operating the exchange (see the Bybit profile).

Today the legal counterparty for users is APEX DAO Inc. The Terms of Use send disputes to individual arbitration in Panama City and give users one year to bring a claim 9. The founders' names and the company's place of incorporation are not disclosed in the documents we reviewed.

Products on ApeX Omni

The ApeX docs list these products as of October 2026 12:

  • Perpetuals: more than 100 contracts, with leverage up to 100x on some markets.
  • TradFi/stock perpetuals: perpetuals tracking selected stocks, ETFs and other real-world assets, with leverage up to 50x.
  • Prediction markets: spot markets on event outcomes, powered by integrations such as Polymarket. They carry no leverage and no liquidation.
  • Grid bot: automated buy/sell orders at fixed price intervals (see how trading bots work).
  • Vaults: community vaults run by traders who take a performance fee, and ApeX-managed protocol vaults funded by liquidation fees. Returns are not guaranteed.
  • Spot trading, API access and third-party terminals.

How ApeX Omni works

ApeX Omni matches orders in a central limit order book (see order types). Execution happens off-chain, and state is settled on a rollup 6:

  1. Deposit. You send funds to an ApeX contract on BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base or Mantle 5.
  2. Credit. The rollup credits your account. Per L2BEAT, the host chain is Arbitrum One, and deposits from the other chains are relayed over LayerZero 6.
  3. Trade. Orders are matched and batched. ApeX pays gas on behalf of traders, so placing, modifying and cancelling orders carries no network fee 3.
  4. Prove. Batches are proven with zero-knowledge proofs and posted to Arbitrum One 6.

Margin is held in USDT, and every position shares one cross-margin pool. ApeX Omni has no isolated-margin mode, so a loss on one position reduces the buffer for all the others 4. USDC, WBTC, WETH, ETH, cmETH, mETH, cbBTC and USDe can also count as collateral 4. The account is liquidated once total maintenance margin reaches 100% of equity 4.

For background on rollups, see what is a layer 2.

Fees

Trading fees use one VIP schedule, in effect since October 1, 2025. Your tier is the better of two measures: your 14-day trading volume or the amount of APEX/esAPEX you have staked 3.

Tier 14-day volume or APEX/esAPEX staked Maker Taker
1 < $5M ≤ 25,000 0.020% 0.050%
2 ≥ $5M ≥ 25,000 0.015% 0.045%
3 ≥ $25M ≥ 100,000 0.010% 0.040%
4 ≥ $100M ≥ 250,000 0.005% 0.035%
5 ≥ $500M — 0% 0.030%
6 ≥ $1B — 0% 0.028%
7 ≥ $2B — 0% 0.025%

Fees are taken in USDT when an order fills. Cancellations are free 3.

Funding is paid between longs and shorts every hour. The hourly rate is capped at ±0.05%, and ApeX says it absorbs any amount beyond the cap 3.

Illustrative example (stated assumptions): a tier-1 trader opens and closes a $10,000 position with market orders, paying 0.05% twice, or $10. If the position stays open for one hour at a +0.01% funding rate, a long pays a further $1. Gas for withdrawing back to a base chain is separate.

Who can use ApeX Protocol

ApeX does not require KYC 2. The Terms of Use, updated July 27, 2026, say the software is not available to people who are residents or citizens of, located in, or incorporated in the United States or any other restricted territory, and that using a VPN to get around this is prohibited 9. Users must also check that derivatives trading is legal where they live 9.

APEX token and staking

APEX is the protocol token, with a maximum supply of 1 billion 12. Under Staking 4.0, in effect since February 20, 2025, stakers of APEX or esAPEX receive weekly rewards paid in APEX, bought back from trading-fee revenue 10. Longer lock-ups earn more: a 12-month lock earns four times the multiplier of a 3-month lock 10. Staked balances also count toward fee tiers 3. Reward amounts change weekly and are not fixed yields.

ApeX Pro sunset and forced withdrawals

ApeX Pro, the first-generation exchange, ran on StarkWare's StarkEx in validium mode 713. Its trading pairs were delisted in phases from March 6, 2025 7. On July 14, 2025, ApeX locked the Pro contract to begin StarkEx's forced-withdrawal process, and the withdrawal page became usable on July 30 8. Users with funds left on Pro reclaim them directly on Ethereum using Merkle proofs. The process has three steps (initiate escape, finalize, withdraw), and ApeX warns that gas costs can be high 8. L2BEAT lists the Pro instance as frozen and archived 6.

Security model and risks

ApeX Omni is self-custodial in the sense that no company account holds your funds, but the rollup still depends on its operators. L2BEAT's assessment as of October 2026 6:

  • Upgrades without notice. Contracts can be upgraded with no delay, leaving no window to exit first.
  • Single validator. One permissioned validator commits blocks, so if it stops, withdrawals freeze.
  • Bridge dependency. Deposits from chains other than Arbitrum rely on LayerZero messaging. In October 2026, ApeX moved its sync services to new LayerZero bridges.
  • Exit path. L2BEAT reports that the secondary-chain escrow contracts reject exit proofs. ApeX's own force-withdrawal guide lists claim contracts on all five chains 5. Users who depend on the escape hatch should check this before depositing on a non-Arbitrum chain.
  • Not yet Stage 0. L2BEAT classifies the system as "not even Stage 0" because the state cannot be rebuilt from L1 data with public node software.

Trading carries its own risks: liquidation under cross margin, auto-deleveraging in extreme moves, and oracle or index pricing.

Questions about ApeX Protocol

Is ApeX Protocol the same as ApeX Omni?
ApeX Protocol is the brand. ApeX Omni is its current exchange. ApeX Pro was the earlier exchange and has been shut down 17.
Which chains does ApeX Omni support for deposits?
BNB Chain, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and Mantle, according to its force-withdrawal docs. Arbitrum One is the rollup's host chain 56.
Does ApeX Omni charge gas fees?
Not for trading. ApeX subsidizes gas for placing, editing and cancelling orders. Deposits and on-chain claims still cost gas on the base chain 35.
Can I still withdraw from ApeX Pro?
Yes, through the forced-withdrawal ("escape hatch") page that opened on July 30, 2025. You pay Ethereum gas for each step 8.
Is ApeX Protocol available in the US?
No. The Terms of Use exclude US persons and residents of other restricted territories, and they prohibit using a VPN to get around this 9.
